Composition and Formulation of Low-Cement Refractory Castables

Low Cement Castable (LCC) is a high-performance monolithic refractory material that uses calcium aluminate cement as a binder. By reducing cement content, optimizing particle size distribution, and adding ultra-fine powders and efficient dispersing agents, low cement castables achieve excellent mechanical strength, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance.

Generally, refractory castables with a CaO content below 2.5% are classified as Low Cement Castables. When the CaO content is controlled between 1.0% and 2.5%, the material is known as Ultra Low Cement Castable (ULCC). Compared with traditional castables, low cement castables contain less cement, resulting in lower impurity content and improved high-temperature performance.

During production, ultra-fine powders and chemical additives are carefully selected to improve the working performance of the castable. Ultra-fine powders help fill microscopic pores and promote sintering at high temperatures, while high-efficiency water reducers and dispersing agents improve flowability and reduce the required water addition. The lower water content helps decrease porosity after drying and increases the overall density of the refractory lining.
