What Is a Lime Kiln?

A lime kiln is an industrial furnace designed to calcine limestone (CaCO₃) at temperatures ranging from 850°C to 1200°C, producing quicklime (CaO) and carbon dioxide (CO₂). Lime kilns are widely used in the steel, cement, metallurgy, chemical, environmental protection, and building materials industries.

Because lime kilns operate continuously under high temperatures and severe thermal cycling, selecting the right refractory materials is essential for improving kiln life, reducing maintenance costs, and ensuring stable production.
